Cropping system redesign for reliable crop protection

Cropping systems redesign, or ecological modernization, is needed to successfully protect our crops given fewer or no chemical pesticides and a dearth of effective substitutions. This requires a systems approach to strengthen multiple ecosystem functions that support crop production and are provided biodiversity (including the weeds) and to adapt to climate change.
